Meet 2024 ¡Globalquerque! Poster Artist
TALIS FROUGE
This year, for the first time we went with a digital artist. It felt right with the new venue and format, and being at the start of the ¡G! v.2 Era!
Digital Artist/Designer/Printmaker/Animator Talis Frouge has been attending ¡Globalquerque! since he was a wee lad. The 2024 summa cum laude graduate from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Printmaking and Graphic Design is a co-founder of VWLS., a multimedia creative collective and production studio with an emphasis on anti-proprietary and open source media and thought. As a freelance artist Talis has created graphics and artwork for quite a few bands incuding CD packaging designs for 2024 ¡Globalquerque! artists Nation Beat and South African vocalist Melanie Scholtz latest releases "Archaic Humans" and "Seven" respectively (both on Ropeadope Records), artwork for the band Nosotros' single "Mentiras", poster, single artwork and Spotify Canvas animations for indie band Sightseeing, design work for the City of Albuquerque Arts and Culture Department, logos for Comfy Living Chicago and Avokado Artists and many more projects. He has been busy!
Talis' vision is one of ¡Globalquerque! moving forward, while continuing to uderscore our mission of cross-cultural understanding through music and the arts, and supporting global artists. We will let you guess who's who on the poster from our 2024 visiting artist lineup but here's a clue: they represent the continents of Asia, Africa, Europe, and The Americas.
In another first, this year's poster will be created in the unique Risograph style, right here in New Mexico at Risolana, a not-for-profit, community risograph studio located in Albuquerque's South Valley. A risograph is a printer invented by the Riso Kagaku Corporation in Japan in the 80’s and has emerged as an art form in its own right. The Risograph uses ink to produce vibrant digital prints with a uniquely handcrafted feel. Were are excited to have a limited number of these available at the festival, including a special Free Palestine edition, with all proceeds from sales going to PCRF - Palestine Children's Relief Fund.

¡Globalquerque! is honorerd to announce that we have once again been awarded grants for FY 2024-25 from National Endowment for The Arts, New Mexico Arts and WESTAF! Together with the funding from the City of Albuquerque Arts and Culture Departments and indivisual donors, we are able to present the 2024 festival and opening party FREE to all! Funding also allows us to expand our state-wide programming! We thank all our funders for their support of ¡Globalquerque! and the the arts in the Land of Enchantment!

This documentary film not only explores Fendika Cultural Center and the azmari tradition, but also visits neighborhoods, markets and events in Addis Ababa and, of checks out the course food and culture, including the making of Ethiopia's famous berbere spice mixture and its renowned coffee ceremony. What is up with ¡Globalquerque!?
Some of you may have noticed the lack of public activity coming from Team ¡Globalquerque! over the past months, including not announcing dates for 2023, Early Bird ticket sales, call to vendors, etc. We are now ready to make what has been happening public. The statement is a bit long, but we wanted to let you know as much of the background as we could.
